African Penguin
These small black-and-white seabirds are the only penguin species that lives on the coasts of Africa. Today there are fewer than 19,800 mature African penguins left in the world, with approximately 9,900 breeding pairs.
Once abundant along the shores of South Africa and Namibia, they have declined by more than 95% over the past century due to overfishing, oil spills, habitat destruction and climate change, which reduces their food supply.
By supporting sustainable fishing, protecting coastal habitats and contributing to conservation programs, we can help secure their future.
Their calls once echoed across the coastline, they deserve to be heard again.
